When is the Kangaroo Island Marathon?

The next race date is set for the 24th of August 2025. The Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km all occur on the same day.

How do I get to Kangaroo Island?

There are two main ways to travel to Kangaroo Island.

  1. by Ferry is recommended with SeaLink providing discounts towards fares for registered runners. It also means you can bring a car that will make transit around the Island easier.
  2. by Plane is also possible with limited flights into Kingscote each day, it may be possible for you to rent a vehicle at the airport also.

You'll find more detail by reading our Getting There Guide.

If you'd like to relieve the stress of planning your logistics and join a group of like-minded travellers, Marathon Tours & Travel provide travel packages that include return transfers from Adelaide.

What time does my race start?

The Marathon starts at 7:30am.

The Half Marathon starts at 8:00am. Runners should report to the park entrance no later than 7:00am noting buses will depart at 7:15am sharp. The buses will transport half marathon runners to the Remarkable Rocks which acts as the start line for the half marathon.

The 10KM starts at 8:30am.

What is the cut-off time for my race?

The park is closed for our runners and must re-open to the general public from 2:30pm. The cut-off time for all events is 2:30pm meaning each event has a cut off time based on when they start as follows:

  • Marathon starts at 7:30am with a 7 Hour cut-off
  • Half Marathon starts at 8:00am with a 6.5 Hour cut-off
  • 10km starts at 8:30am with a 6 Hour cut-off
Can I find toilets on the course?

Runners can access toilets at the event village (Flinders Chase Visitors Centre) and at the Remarkable Rocks - which is the start of the half marathon, and the turnaround point of the marathon. There will also be a porta-loo out on the course near the halfway point.

Where are the Aid Stations on course?

Aid stations will be positioned about every 4km out on the course marked in your event guide. Aid stations placed on your event course will be accessible to Marathoners and Half-Marathoners.

Each Aid Station will be managed by Volunteers and will contain the following:

  • WATER
  • ELECTROLYTES
  • HONEY FROM KI HONEY. Yes, we are using locally produced natural honey as our energy supply on our course.

Don't be a Tosser!

Dispose of your cups and gel packets in the designated bins provided, placed after every aid station. Bringing your gels? Help keep the course and environment clean by holding onto your used gel packets until you reach a bin.

We encourage the use of Hydration packs and refillable cups out on the course. You can refill at any of the aid stations out on course.

Can I have my own personal nutrition?

Yes, you absolutely can, and it is encouraged due to the remote nature of the event. We recommend you run with everything you may need and be supplemented by what you will find at the Aid Stations.

What is the Event Cancellation policy?

The decision to cancel the event will be made by the Race Director in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer.  The cancellation policy is based on inclement weather conditions defined by air temperatures below 2°C or above 35°C and wind speeds in excess of 100km/hour. Please note the event will not be cancelled if ferry services cannot operate in the days prior to the event date.

What does my Entry Fee cover?

Your entry fee supports your experience on course including medical support, race marshals, road closures, and nutrition and aid stations as outlined in the event guide.

In 2025 runners across the line will receive a Finishers Cap, Finishers Medal and a Kangaroo Island Brewery Limited Edition Beer.
